Pineville is historically known as “The River City”, located on the scenic Elk River.
Organized March 3, 1849, from Newton County and named for Alexander McDonald, Revolutionary War soldier. Originally defined by the Legislature as Seneca County and attached to Newton County for civil and military purposes on January 1, 1847, the name was changed to McDonald upon formal organization of the county. Changes have been made throughout our history with formal organization...
Walking around Pineville prior to our meeting to organize a McDonald County Democrats Central Committee Club, I saw great history as well as progress. This old feed store is just steps away from the town square. Also of interest, Jesse James (1939) was filmed almost entirely in Pineville. The sequel Belle Starr (1941) was also filmed here.
The first McDonald County Courthouse from around 1850! I love that the people here have saved this building!! McDonald County folks know their history, learn from it and I’m hoping want to grow & progress with their knowledge. Knowledge is power!
Yes! As I turn to walk further, I spotted behind the old courthouse, a new RECYCLING CENTER! McDonald County people ARE my people! Appreciating the past while respecting the future. Everyone’s future.
I honestly had no idea on how many may show up for tonight’s meeting to organize the county Dems. I arrived just over an HOUR prior to the meeting and the parking lot was almost full! I was speechless! Ya’ll came out! Fired up! Ready to go! MY people!!!
Everyone had a concern or story to share. They’ve had nobody in Congress to listen to them. I’m listening!
Everyone was eager to share! That’s what we need. YOUR voices NEED to be heard!!
Concerns impacting multiple generations come to me quite often, many times involving veterans.
Each concern is different but all with a common denominator – YOU ARE WAY OVERDUE FOR REPRESENTATION IN WASHINGTON.
Jim Kabell, Central Committee Chair for Lawrence County, lead the meeting. Jim explained the process clearly to all. Everyone truly was fired up & ready to go to get McDonald County a Central Committee which starts as a Club per the By-Laws. With McDonald County becoming organized, ALL 10 counties of the 7th Congressional District will now have Central Committees or Clubs. YAY!!
Jim Evans, retired IBEW, was elected temporary Chairperson for the McDonald County Democratic Club. It was determined they’d meet at the Community Center on the 3rd Thursdays of each month unless otherwise notified. CONGRATS, MCDONALD COUNTY!!
Angela Thomas, Chairperson for the Newton County Central Committee, was very involved in helping her McDonald County neighbors as much as she could with the organizational process. We are all in this together; be helpful, be kind, be strong.
McDonald County was named for Alexander McDonald, a Revolutionary War soldier. Now with the entirety of the 7th District being organized, let’s have our own REVOLUTION and go all BLUE! Get involved at any level – just get involved. Huge WELCOME to McDonald County!!!
Loved everything about the folks in McDonald County. Couldn’t resist grabbing a pic of Rene’s T-shirt which has one of my favorite sayings – BEE KIND. Thanks, Rene’!
Karen Riley, Vice Chair...
Taking the center spot is powerhouse, Austin Reid, with Young Democrats, 18-35 year olds.
Missi & Nanda Nunnelly with the DNC discussing separation of families with current ICE operations.
Missi 'gets down' to listening to more of what concerns our people.
John Hicks, Chair Southwest Missouri Democrats, 32nd Senatorial District, gave a great update on scheduled events.
Yanda Nunnelly, Committeewoman, Missouri Democratic Party, representing the 32nd Senatorial District and DNC representative, gave great insight to the inner workings of the DNC.
Although Missi wasn’t scheduled as a speaker, she was invited to say a few words. The support from this group was fabulous!! We MUST take the House, and hoping the Senate. Let’s do this!
The stories heard, bringing tears often. Corrections must be made, our Constitution must be followed, oaths of office must be honored. Liberty and justice for all...
Missi, joined by Ashley Cossins, candidate for MO House Dist 131, listens intently to Kathy Christy, MCE Community Outreach Specialist, to learn more about the Missouri Coalition for the Environment (MCE).
Listening to Mike Chiles, brother of Dan Chiles of Rockspan Farm and member of MCE Board of Directors.
Sharing ideas for cleaner water, land and air for ALL brings a big smile to the face of MCE Executive Director, Jared Opsal.
Past District Director SW & S Central MO at previous United States Senate, retired farmer, environmentalist, David Stokely, joins the chat with more great ideas.
Missi & Ashley discuss concepts for environmental improvement legislation to improve life for ALL on federal and state levels respectively.
More intense listening. Missi knows she cannot be your voice if she doesn't give you her ears. Talk is cheap, listening is priceless.
Newspaper interview time...
Listening to Springfield City Councilman, Bruce Adib-Yazdi, sharing more great environmental improvement concepts for the city of Springfield.
Listening to Bill, a Greene County Health Department retiree, who has been an environmental activist since the mid 70's, however, he is no "has been"! He continues the effort for improvements for all of us and is so appreciated. Thank you, Bill!
Missi welcomed everyone to the big night at Downstream!
...the presentation of our flags
Opening welcome address presented by Jim Kabell who everyone knows and admires through his work with the Teamsters and our Democratic Party.
Guest speaker, Emanuel Cleaver, U.S. Representative serving MO Congressional District 5 (Kansas City), brought the house down and up with standing ovations! What a great speaker, person, and representative!
Our next guest speaker was Crystal Quade who served as Missouri’s House Minority Leader, representing the 132nd district and ran against Mike Kehoe in last year’s run for Governor. Crystal is always an inspiration to listen to and was very valued with her work in the Missouri House.
Here’s MISSI!! Out from behind the podium – she likes to get up front and personable with her people. No formal speech. A lot of gratitude for the support from everyone. Some talk about her background and the direction she wants to go and to take SWMO – in the best interest of ALL people, not special interests. She IS one of us. She is SWMO.
A quick send off to Emanuel Cleaver for a safe drive home. It was the night before Father’s Day and he promised his family back in KC he’d get home that night. It was also the day an assassin had murdered democratic politicians in Minnesota. Emanuel Cleaver was on the assassin’s hit list. It’s time we all come together for a better country with better laws for the good of all.
